About Mandy Schumacher, LAC
Doing the work is not easy, but it’s certainly worth it…
I feel privileged to do this work and to be a part of your healing journey. Uncovering your most authentic self can be a bumpy ride, but it is never one you have to traverse alone. Together we will work to find your highest potential, untap the strength that already exists inside of you, and discover tools to overcome life’s toughest obstacles. I believe that the best work is done when the therapeutic relationship feels safe and genuine. I understand coming to therapy takes courage and vulnerability – I’m already proud of your strength in taking this first step!
I have experience working with children, families, adolescents, and adults in both the clinical and school setting. I am an LGBTQ+ affirming clinician and always prioritize honoring all cultural backgrounds. In my practice, I focus on identifying maladaptive patterns, examining roles within family systems, healing wounded relationships with self and others, and processing trauma. I predominantly use Internal Family Systems, EFT, and Mindfulness. I am passionate about Social-Emotional Learning and play therapy for children and I love using Gottman methods when working with couples. Whether you are struggling with depression, anxiety, dependency, or troubled relationships – I will always come from a place of empathy and hold you in the highest regard.
Traded in My Snow Boots for Sunglasses!
I grew up in the small town of Green River, Wyoming. I had the honor of swimming division one for the University of Wyoming while getting my Elementary Education degree (GO POKES)! I taught elementary school for three years in Arizona and spent one year traveling the U.S. working for National Geographic Learning. I then decided to pursue my passion of becoming a mental health therapist by hitting the books AGAIN. In 2019, I graduated with my Masters in Counseling from ASU (GO SUN DEVILS)!
When I am not in the therapy chair, I love spending time with my wife, two cats, and our dog! I absolutely love traveling, visiting family (in Canada and Wyoming), being an auntie to my nieces and nephews, having game nights with friends, and writing.
From the bottom of my heart, I cannot wait to know you!
About Stephanie Nilsen, Ph.D., MS Intern
Building strong and trusting therapeutic alliances.
From teaching kindergarten to higher education and on to becoming a counselor, I have watched and worked with humans of all ages and all stages as they learn to face challenges and experience growth. Overcoming is a human endeavor and relationships are the foundation for learning new ways to face whatever is standing in your way.
I work with individual adults (from teens to seniors), families, and children to help identify barriers to development and focus on utilizing the strategies that will best facilitate positive change. We will work in tandem to identify challenges and find realistic and effective solutions that will help to improve relationships, support better communication, and manage day to day challenges. I believe in using trauma-informed approaches that begin where you are to help promote success and positive change. Methods such as Solution-Focused Therapy, CBT, DBT, Internal Family Systems, and Developmental Play-Based Interventions can help to build skills and work through depression, anxiety, trauma, relationships, and more.
Back From the Beehive State!
After working and studying in both Utah and Arizona, I am grateful to be back in the valley of the sun near family and lifelong friends to continue my career as a mental health provider.
I’ve dedicated my life to searching for new ways to manage human challenges. I started in Early Childhood Education teaching in Preschool, Kindergarten and Elementary grades, particularly in early intervention and special education realms. I earned a Masters in K-12 Special Education; a Doctorate in Infant and Early Childhood Development with an emphasis in Mental Health and Developmental Disorders, and returned for a second Master’s in Mental Health Counseling with an emphasis in trauma.
I am keenly interested in developmental approaches to learning, social/emotional learning, especially in the context of trauma, and relationships-based approaches that focus on authentic learning and improvements. I’d would be honored to work together with you to identify problems, find realistic solutions, and work towards a life full of more skills, hope, and growth!
About Andrea Torres, LCSW
Let’s figure it out together!
I strongly believe in the importance of clients being able to establish a good therapeutic relationship with the right therapist for them. It is my motto to work with you as a team to help you identify the skills and strength to live the happy and healthy life you want. I am happy to meet you where you are at in your journey and provide the support and safety you need.
I’m an English & Spanish-speaking therapist who is also fluent in sign language! I work with teenagers 14+, adults, and couples, both in-person or via telehealth. I am EMDR certified and have provided trauma counseling to individuals for four years. I am also Gottman Method Couples Therapy trained and have been growing my work with couples. You can expect I will use a variety of treatment styles for your individual needs, including CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused Therapy, as well as DBT skills as I find them to be very helpful for clients and like to provide a variety of tools to use as life events arise. Identifying you may need a little help is the first step; I am just a guide to help you overcome your challenges. I love working with all sorts of individuals and I am proud to provide a judgment-free zone in my office.
Don’t Mess with Texas
I was born and raised in El Paso, TX, which is a border town. In 2014, I received my bachelor’s degree at Texas State University in San Marcos, and from there, made my way to Phoenix where I obtained my Master of Social Work in 2017. I began my career as an LMSW at a recovery center for seriously mentally ill adults and transitioned to the outpatient setting once I got my LCSW in 2020.
Outside the office, I will spend my weekend with a good book, playing soccer and water volleyball. I love staying active, spending time with my friends, and am excited to be getting back into traveling, though I enjoy being at home with my husband and our three cats. My weakness is takis – give me a bag and you make my whole day, but since I am a bit addicted, it is best not to!!
I am excited to work with every client that comes my way and I will always be direct and honest with you about what to expect.

Whatever you’re walking in with, you don’t have to walk through it alone anymore.
Midwest to Southwest
I was born and raised in Michigan where I got my bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Adrian College. I also had the esteemed privilege of being part of a Team USA Synchronized Skating Team for two years while attending Adrian. From there, I completed my Master’s in Social Work at the University of Georgia and eventually made the decision to move out here to Phoenix, Arizona in 2019. With two years of practice under my belt, I feel confident in my ability to help you navigate the challenges you are facing.
Outside of the office, I am a huge film nerd, I go to the movies every weekend. I still enjoy skating, spending time with my pet snake Eerie, playing the ukulele, traveling, going to concerts, and connecting with my friends.
I am excited that you are taking this important step towards the future you have been dreaming of, and I can’t wait to walk with you on that journey.
About Samantha Becerra, MS Intern
Every person is unique and capable.
I believe everyone has the strength and ability to overcome their personal struggles, but sometimes we need a little help learning what those abilities are. I am here to support you during your journey of self-discovery, growth, and positive change.
On my journey as a counselor thus far, I have worked with adults, couples, and adolescents through a Solution-Focused and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approach. Some of the most common struggles I assist others in overcoming include anxiety, depression, relationship problems, and recovering from trauma.
I appreciate the uniqueness of each and every person and believe your therapy treatment should be unique to you. Together, we will come up with the best game plan that aligns with what you want most in your life.
There’s No Place Like Home
I was born in Phoenix and have lived in Arizona most of my life, except for 3 years in Hawaii. Although it was an amazing experience, there’s just no place like home. Like a true Arizonan, I enjoy hiking and exploring everything Arizona has to offer. I also enjoy traveling to new places, drawing, snorkeling, going to the beach, and having adventures with my family as often as possible.
Ever since I was a little girl, I knew that I wanted to help others and always had the natural ability to genuinely listen and be present. In a world that can feel lonely, I aim to make sure you always feel heard and seen. I look forward to meeting you!

Born and Raised Phoenician
As a true Arizona lover, I enjoy spending time with my family (including my two pups) and friends, trying out new restaurants around town, and exploring the outdoors with my husband and son. The desert is my happy place!
I am here to walk alongside you on your path to healing, whatever that may look like for you.
About Summerslee Latham, T-LAC
I strive to make a difference!
I am passionate about making positive changes in the lives of others. I enjoy helping individuals feel seen and heard while providing skills and techniques that one can use throughout their life.
I have a soft-natured approach and will reach out with a trusting and inviting warm sense of humor. I believe a good therapist is one who is devoted to their clients’ journeys and improving their overall well-being.
Working with clients on issues related to improving boundaries, self-esteem, relationships, and managing anxiety and depression are a few of my areas of focus. My specialties revolve around the different levels of trauma I have been trained on, including EMDR, Eating Disorders, and Complex Trauma. My goal is to work with you as a team and to properly conceptualize a treatment plan that best fits you to move forward. Whatever the situation is, I want to ensure every client can find their way to successful, healthy, and authentic life.
Happy to be back in the Valley of the Sun
I was born in Scottsdale and have just recently moved back from Texas. I love to travel, find new places to eat, and hang out with friends and family. I have a long hair dachshund named Ginger and she is such a cuddler.
I am looking forward to providing you with caring counseling in order to create a more fulfilling way of life!
About Claire Karakey, LPC
Our biggest cheerleader!
You must know this about me… I genuinely care about the people with whom I’m working. During my time with clients, they know they are the focus and have my undivided attention. I am there to celebrate successes as well as sit together during uncomfortable times. I am rooting for ALL of the revelations – even setbacks can be viewed as progress!
Outside my new role as Clinical Director, I enjoy working with both children and adults, I specialize in treating depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction, chronic pain or illness, grief and loss, and navigating life transitions. I have extensive training in shame and trauma and understand the negative thinking loops they send us on.
Being a therapist and helping others has been a dream since I was 12 years old, sitting on the other side of the couch. Therapy was a gamechanger for me then – and it still is today. I feel that it is beyond essential to help people learn and accept who they are to better connect to themselves and others.
Now that I am a certified supervisor in the state of Arizona, I also love mentoring other counselors to help them flourish and develop their own unique style and specialties. I am honored to lead and support the amazing team of talented therapists we have here at Claibourne Counseling!
I am both a Sun Devil and a Wildcat!
I am a Tucson native and attended the University of Arizona. I explored my love of sports by representing the women’s tennis team and began my career as a special education teacher. As a teacher, I taught functional academics, such as life skills, sportsmanship, social skills, and more. Then I continued to Arizona State University for my Masters of Counseling to pursue my passion for helping people on a more individualized level.
At home, I enjoy music, cooking, watching movies, hosting BBQs, game nights, and spending time with my husband, Chas, and our family and friends. The dog park is my happy place – and Rosie and Hank, my golden retrievers, probably agree! I am also a cat person… Harry and Herbert are my two feline fur babies. And the Bath and Body Works annual sale is a frickin’ holiday for me – I’m obsessed with candles. 😉
I’m human, just like you. I continue to learn daily and work hard to embrace it all!!
