The Gottman Method was developed for use in marriage and relationship counseling by John & Julie Gottman.
What is The Gottman Method?
The Gottman Method is founded on the science that ongoing negativity can impact the brain and couples will grow apart emotionally if positive steps aren’t taken to combat the negativity.
The work is based on The Sound Relationship House Theory which is a diagram designed to build trust and commitment and manage conflict. This model focuses on showing admiration, finding positivity, supporting life’s goals, and creating shared meaning. In this process, the couple will also build love maps which entails detailing the likes and dislikes of the significant other to help better understand their true needs and desires.
The Gottman Method is a highly effective, researched-based approach that involves an assessment, an individual session, and then regular sessions together as a couple. It can be used at any stage of a relationship to address a wide variety of concerns couples may experience.
